Peaceful Evening

This was such a peaceful afternoon.  Floated around the pond.  Sat on the shore and read as the sun went down.  And then nighthawks!

Can you see the great blue heron?

Bidens frondosa - begger's ticks.  I love to see this flower, and never fail to pull it out of my gardens.

Turtlehead!  Chelone glabra.  Look at those little turtles.

Sensitive fern.  Onoclea sensibilis.

Shroom

You can't see them, but there were nighthawks in the air.  Perfect end to the day.

Bike Riding On A (Almost) September Day

It sure feels like September today: dry, cool, sunny.  Smells like it also, that dry smell of hay and autumn wildflowers.  Crickets singing.  Raven overhead.

Autumn Day On The Water

A cold front came through last night, with wind and rain, and today was a spectacular day to be out on the water in Wilmot Flat

    Turtlehead (Chelone glabra) is blooming.

Dragonflies are patrolling their territories and laying eggs.

Rafts of mallards are forming up before heading south.

And great blue herons are stepping out in style.

Carnivore

I am always fascinated by floating bladderwort (Utricularia radiata).  The yellow flowers are really hard to photograph.

Utricularia radiata, showing the underwater bladders that suck in little aquatic bugs

This evening I sat at the edge of the pond and watched thunderheads build.

Bat Weather! ! Hot, Hazy, Humid.

Lots of bats feeding on mosquitoes in this muggy air.

Cooler Weather

With the dangerously high temperatures this week, here is a flashback to Winter 2017-2018 when it was a bit cooler.
